Teresa Stiland has died

It is with great sadness that we learned that our friend Teresa Stiland passed away yesterday in Paris. Teresa Stiland was born Matla Rozenberg in 1925 into a Jewish family in Częstochowa, Poland. She was 14 years old when German troops occupied Łódź, where she lived with her grandparents. Matla managed to survive the Litzmannstadt/Łódź ghetto; her relatives died in the ghettos or were murdered in Treblinka. read more

Guided tours bookable again

According to the Hamburg Covid-19 regulations, which have been in effect since Feb. 19th, 2022, visitors in booked groups no longer have to prove that they have been vaccinated or have recovered. read more

From now on, groups can also get to know the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial, the Bullenhuser Damm, Poppenbüttel and Fuhlsbüttel Memorials digitally with pedagogical guidance in an interactive and participatory way, dealing with various key topics on National Socialist persecution and the concentration camp system in depth. read more

Shoa survivor Helga Melmed’s visit to Hamburg

Helga grew up in a Jewish family in Berlin as the only child of her parents Frieda and Georg Arndtheim. When Helga was 13 the whole family was deported to the Ghetto in Łódź/Litzmannstadt as part of the first transport out of Berlin where her parents were murdered. Helga was deported to Auschwitz in 1943 and in 1944 she was selected by the SS for forced labour in various satellite camps of KZ Neuengamme in Hamburg (Veddel und Poppenbüttel/Sasel). read more

We mourn the death of Neonila Kurliak

Recently, we received the sad news that Neonila Kurlyak died of Covid-19 on April 17, 2021 in Mykolaiv, Ukraine. We remember a warm-hearted, friendly and combative woman who, despite her difficult fate, could also laugh heartily and who kept her zest for life. She was always open-minded and open to new experiences. read more
